Introduction
The Faculty of Engineering was established as place of higher learning and research on the realization that engineers are required in almost every industry since they contribute substantially to the design, manufacturing, and maintenance of practically everything that society needs. Moreover, to sustain
the industrial growth and competitiveness in the international scenario, a large number of engineers are required.
The main objective of the faculty, thus, are to provide higher education and training, to conduct research, and to become a reference and consultancy centre for industry in varied areas of engineering. In achieving these onjectives, the faculty recognizes the importance of antive and close cooperation with the industry and hence work as and considers itself a partner to industry.
Research
Research activities are carried out in the Faculty by the academic staff in almost all major areas of engineering. Besides individual research, the staff members are engaged in joint research with industry and in consultancy projects.
The faculty is equipped with excellent state-of-the-art research facilities.
The faculty has a General and Research Services Unit which offers services in construction and fabrication works.
Several laboratories provide sophisticated equipment for use by graduate students and also R&D activities. These include laboratories for:
- Process Engineering and Postharvest Technology

Research Areas
The faculty has identified several research areas. The scope of both basic and applied research in engineering is very diversified and highly complex. This is attributable to a number of factors, industrial scenario, rapid development in technology, the changing demands for industrial products and national aspirations.
The faculty has therefore tailored research activities to address these issues in line with national aspiration and expectations. The research thrust is on the following areas:
