Introduction The interdisciplinary nature of Chemical Engineering beyond 2000 is evident if we look at the stages of development that transpired both the academics and industries. However, in Man’s relentless pursuit of material well being and economic growth, the delicate balance between Man and Nature is increasingly being disrupted. It behooves man to protect and maintain that fragile equilibrium, so that the ecologically sound environment can be sustained. The technical conference in Chemical Engineering under the World Engineering Congress (WEC99) will be a platform for the practicing engineers, academicians and researchers to discuss various issues related to interdisciplinary nature of chemical engineering. Current topics with regards to research and development, technical and professional practices shall be presented to enhance the current technological advancement and to chart the development of chemical engineering beyond 2000.As an organizing committee, the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, University Putra Malaysia would also like to use this congress to honor their first graduate batch of chemical engineering in 1999. Objectives: The aim of the conference is to bring together scientists and engineers working in the field of chemical engineering science and fundamentals, process control and new product development, waste treatment and management, separation science and technology and Bioprocess engineering and to report on the progress made over the years in understanding the operational strategies to produce new products and harmful wastes. While new products and processes can be conceived and partially developed in the laboratory, bringing modern chemical/biochemical engineering to industrial fruition requires skills and special know-how. |
Keynote Speakers Distinguished and world-renowned experts in Chemical Engineering will be invited to address on keynote areas, particularly on: 1. Past and Future Trends in Chemical Engineering. 2. Environmental Engineering in Chemical Industries Call for Papers Interested participants are invited to submit an extended abstract in line with the conference theme. The abstract of approximately 500 words should be submitted together with the completed registration form before 30th December 1998. Submission of abstract could be made via facsimile or as an attachment file (MS Word 97) in an e-mail. A panel of reviewers shall review all abstracts and only those accepted shall be informed of its acceptance no later than 30th January 1998. Upon notification of acceptance, authors are required to submit the full paper before 30th March 1999. Guidance notes on manuscript preparation will be sent together with the notification. Acceptance of paper will be subjected to the approval by the panel of reviewers and authors are expected to adhere strictly to their recommendations. The final manuscript should be submitted in a camera-ready form together with a 31/2" diskette. Selected papers in Biotechnology /Bioprocess will be published in the special issue of the international journal. Negotiation for publications of papers in other reputable journals is still in progress. |
